Perfect Udder

Colostrum management

With the Perfect Udder bag, colostrum stays in one bag from milking to feeding. You pasteurise, cool, freeze and warm it in that bag, and feed straight from it.

Colostrum in four steps, in one bag

Each step shows what you need, and whether you order it from the shop or on quotation.

  1. Check the quality

Test the colostrum before you store it. A refractometer measures the Brix value; the colostrometer shows the quality straight away in green, yellow or red.

  2. Into the bag

The Economy Filler holds the bag and its opening in place. The Deluxe Filling Station fills the bag hands-free and accurately to the number of litres you want. Both fit 2, 3 and 4 litre bags.

  3. Pasteurise and store

Thanks to the heat-conducting material, you pasteurise, cool, freeze and warm the colostrum in the same bag. A Matilda or Adda does this automatically, at the right temperature and for the right time.

  4. Feed

You feed straight from the bag, with a teat or a drench tube. Prefer a bottle? The Hiko 1-click bottle is frost-resistant, so you can freeze colostrum in it too. With the Trusti Tuber you tube-feed colostrum with one hand.

Pasteurising colostrum

A pasteuriser heats the colostrum to the right temperature, holds it there for the right time and stirs it meanwhile. According to the manufacturer, this kills pathogens such as Johne’s disease, Salmonella and E. coli while keeping the antibodies (IgG) intact.

Frequently asked questions about colostrum management

Can’t find your question? Our advisers will be glad to help.

What is a Perfect Udder bag?

A bag for colostrum, from milking through to feeding. In the same bag you can pasteurise, cool, freeze and warm the colostrum, then feed it with a teat or a drench tube. The heat-conducting material of the bag makes this possible.

Which bag sizes are there?

Bags of 2, 3 and 4 litres, as a sample kit of 10, a kit of 50 and in bulk (500 bags of 2 litres, 400 of 3 or 4 litres). The filling stations fit all three sizes.

What is in a kit?

Besides the bags, a sample kit contains three teats and three drench tubes. With a kit, teats and drench tubes are optional. The bulk pack contains bags only, at the lowest price per bag.

How do I check colostrum quality?

A refractometer measures the Brix value of the colostrum; the manual refractometer reads from 0 to 85%. For a quick check without reading a scale, use the colostrometer: green is good quality, yellow average and red poor.

Why can’t I just buy a pasteuriser in the shop?

Which pasteuriser suits you depends on the number of calves and the way you work. That is why a DairyTop adviser puts together a tailored quote. Bags and accessories you can order straight from the shop.
