Three sizes, one system

Which pen suits your calves?

All three barns are 3,000 mm wide and built the same way. They differ in depth, and so in the space per pen. All floor plans are drawn to one scale and all side views to another, so you can compare the sizes at a glance. The barn stands on a concrete upstand that you pour to the height you want: the higher the upstand, the higher the barn.

How the barn is built

Solid walls, an open front and an insulated roof

The barns are made of fully solid, sturdy plastic panels that resist UV and acid. Thanks to the simple construction, the system can be extended as far as you like.

  1. Galvanised steel frame of an Optima Klima Stal on a concrete foundation, before the walls go on

    Steel frame on concrete

A galvanised steel frame on a concrete foundation forms the base. The water supply connection is in place before the walls go up.

  2. Solid back wall of plastic panels on an Optima Klima Stal

    50 mm plastic walls

The panels are 50 mm thick and are fixed to the concrete with stainless steel U-profiles. The back wall is solid and the front is open.

  3. Underside of the insulated roof and steel frame of the Optima Klima Stal XL

    Insulated roof

Well-insulated sandwich panels form the roof. Summer and winter, they keep the climate in the pens just right.

Options per pen

Fit out each pen the way you want

A pen does not have to be a group pen. As an option, you can put individual or pair pens in it, or add a double door and use it for storage or as a feed kitchen.

  • Individual pens for the first weeks of life
  • Pair pens for two calves together
  • OKS Feed Kitchen with a double door, for storage or as a feed kitchen

Frequently asked questions about the Optima Klima Calf Barn

Torn between two sizes? Call us and we will work it out with you.

How many calves fit in a pen?

A pen holds 6 to 8 calves. Small groups make it easy to keep an eye on every animal, and the walk-through gate gets you to them quickly.

Can I extend the barn later?

Yes. Thanks to its simple construction, the system can be extended as far as you like: add pens as your farm grows.

How do the calves get feed and water?

With the Milkbar and a feed trough, feeding is quick and simple. Water comes from a water bowl connected to the mains supply.

What is the difference between the three sizes?

All three are 3,000 mm wide. The difference is the depth of the pen: 4,950 mm for the OKS, 5,100 mm for the Optima Klima Stal Next Gen and 6,100 mm for the Optima Klima Stal XL. That takes the floor area from 14.0 to 18.3 m² per pen.

Can I put individual pens inside an OKS pen?

Yes. As an option, an OKS pen can take individual pens or pair pens, or a double door to turn it into storage or a feed kitchen.
